Glossary of terms related to psyche
The psyche was the Greek concept of the self, encompasing the modern ideas of soul, self, and mind. I believe that our modern more divisive approach to psychology may easily lead one astray when attempting to understand the human experience—or, in fact, reality.
This glossary, then, takes a somewhat more "holistic" approach in attempting to define the various concepts we associate with the psyche. Note that this is very much a work in progress and at this point merely a stub. But ... I'll be back.
- Acceptance
- Lack of judgment.
- Beliefs
- Influences perception. Also influences one's assessment of oneself.
- Compassion
- Understanding without judgment.
- Concentration
- Attention to beliefs. (Does not involve thought.)
- Desire
- Directs attention. (You shall know your desire through what you do.) Desire is subjective whereas want is objective.
- Essence
- The whole of oneself. Includes the subjective as well as objective.
- Feeling
- Communication from essense. There are only two feelings: pleasure and unpleasure. Note that feeling is not a reaction.
- Impulse
- A language to oneself from essence. Naturally moves oneself into the most efficient directions.
- Love
- An action of knowing and appreciation. (Note that love is not a feeling.)
- Perception
- Projecting mechanism of one's awareness. Generates physical reality. Is itself non-physical in design. Perception is directed by attention.
- Thought
- A translation mechanism.
